特利磁机电于1996年成立，最初推向市场的产品是几款独特的高速数字阀门，用于控制车辆安全气囊的充气。

当时由于安全气囊在触发后的充气过程中传递给乘员过大的冲击力导致了多起儿童死亡事故，美国国家公路交通安全管理局（NHTSA）正在寻找消除安全气囊充气过程导致的死亡事故的方法。

在接下来的数年中，TLX将这项技术应用于许多其他市场，包括消防、汽车、工业，以及普通消费产品、露营车、备用电力系统应用。
